Honda CTX700 N Review

Introducing the Honda CTX700 and CTX700N. As we revealed back in February, Honda’s two brand-new motorcycles are aimed to appeal to newer, shorter – and younger – riders. Honda is confident the incorporation of its automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and antilock brakes (ABS) along with a manageable 28.3-inch seat height, exceptionally nimble handling and practical performance will appeal to anyone intrigued by motorcycling – and perhaps their parents as well.

The CTX700N (base MSRP $6999) and CTX700 ($7999) feature 670cc parallel-Twin engines first introduced on the NC700 series, and they share the same frame as well. The “N” here stands, presumably, for Naked, as the non-N CTX700 adds an upper fairing for rider comfort and touring/commuting practicality. Both of those MSRPs represent standard models with manual transmissions, but for $1000 more you can get Honda’s second-generation Dual-Clutch Transmission and antilock brakes. You can’t get one without the other, but at a thousand bucks, the future is a bargain.

Introduced on the sporty VFR1200, the second-generation DCT has been fine-tuned and dialed in to achieve shifting perfection. Occasional clunky transferals and unpredictable gear changes are gone, replaced by smooth functionality and crisp actuation. In Automatic mode, both up- and downshifts occur at precisely the right points, whether set at Drive or Sport, providing worry-free clutch-less shifting. Tickle the paddle shifters with your thumb and forefinger on the left grip and the CTX changes gears seamlessly, providing extra power or engine braking when desired.

Both CTXs straddle the line between Standard and Cruiser without appearing schizophrenic; it’s a strange and different look, yet somehow it works. With angular headlights and broad shoulders, they resemble a street standard, punctuated by short, tight front fenders and long, pointed rear fenders.

But the round brushed exhaust canister is side-mounted low, a clear cruiser-esque touch, and forward foot controls and the upright rider position are also obviously cruiser-inspired.But Honda didn’t look to a throwback, classic V-Twin cruiser for that inspiration. In the spirit of creating something totally new, they wanted the CTXs to be fresh, innovative motorcycles, and thanks to that modern mindset the overall visual effect is rather akin to a slim-cut, three-piece suit: classic yet contemporary, stylish but not overly bold.

Suspension is provided by a 41mm fork offering 4.2 inches of travel and the rear suspension provides 4.3 inches of travel. The braking system is comprised of a two-piston caliper gripping a 320mm single disc up front and a single-piston job biting a 240mm disc in the rear. On the road, both CTXs displayed great all-around suspension on various terrain, and the brakes worked flawlessly with the DCT to provide a real two-wheel rush in the twisties.

How’s the power? We dyno tested the NC700X in our recent Middleweight Multi-tool Shootout and measured a peak power output of 47.7 hp at 6400 rpm, and 42.6 ft-lb. of torque at 4700 rpm. Honda says we should expect similar, if slightly lower, numbers from the CTX models. Regardless of what the charts say, I’m here to testify that both bikes have plenty of grunt for whatever an entry-level rider will ask of them.

2011 Honda Crossrunner 800cc

Take the flexibility and exciting attitude of a performance machine, and give it the upright riding position and rugged appearance of an adventure bike, what you’re left with is something special. The 2011 Honda Crossrunner 800cc. Along with a unique, stylish image, the 2011 Honda Crossrunner 800cc V4 motor provides a thrilling riding experience, in all conditions, throughout the year in and around town or on long rides out across country. A motorcycle that reflects the riding conditions of this new decade. The 2011 Honda Crossrunner 800cc a motorcycle that delivers a uniquely adaptable experience to suit different riding moods. We gave it a wide-barred, upright riding position to offer an experience that magnifies the impressions of speed, acceleration and lean angle. All the while feeling in complete control. It was the 120 sessions in the wind tunnel that helped us build a motorcycle with such unwavering stability. In fact the airflow technology in the Crossrunner even adds to its trend-setting appearance – which is helped by aesthetically pleasing low slung 4-2-1 exhaust system.

Designed to maximise pillion comfort and create a feeling of unison between rider and passenger, the Crossrunner also addresses the aspect of another strong consideration at initial stage. The engine.

With most sport tourer machines using an in-line four cylinder engine and most adventure motorcycles using a twin cylinder powerplant, the design team had an exciting opportunity. A smooth, flexible and soulful 800cc V4 engine, specifically tuned for a machine that helps a rider find a flowing rhythm.

With the attributes of both a performance machine and an adventure bike, the Crossrunner is a new kind of motorcycle. One that can effortlessly adapt to many different styles of riding.

2011-Honda-Crossrunner

Hondas exciting new entry into the adventure touring category

The Crossrunner represents the best of two biking genres: the flexibility of a performance machine with an upright riding position as well as the rugged appearance of an adventure bike.

The Crossrunner is powered by a liquid-cooled 782cc, 4 cam, V4 engine with VTEC that delivers a smooth curve of power with excellent torque throughout the rev range.

This provides the rider a precisely controlled experience, be it for short urban trips or for covering vast distances.

Thee riders level of control is further enhanced by the wider than normal handlebar configuration, responding accurately yet quickly to small steering inputs, whilst its aluminium alloy twin-spar frame provides excellent rigidity.

The Crossrunner has also been designed to maximise pillion comfort. The passenger is seated on a level, low platform to make mounting and dismounting easier whilst maximising wind protection.

The bikes low-slung 4-2-1 exhaust system leaves room for a lower, flatter pillion seat as well as allowing for an attractive exhaust design, excellent cornering clearance and that distinctive V4 engine note.

Crucial machine data is provided by a floating instrument binnacle, placed high for optimum visibility at all times, including a digital LCD speedometer, tachometer, twin trip meters, a coolant temperature gauge, an ambient temperature indicator and a clock.

A 43mm cartridge-type front fork provides supreme front wheel control and excellent rider feedback.

Cast aluminium Pro-Arm swingarm
, Pro-Link rising-rate linkage system and gas-charged HMAS damper with adjustable rebound combine for comfort and precise control.

Braking is of the highest standard and includes high-performing Combined brakes with standard-fit ABS to create powerful, assured braking with optimised control and feedback.

The Crossrunner will make its debut in the second half of 2011 in two striking colour versions including Graphite Black / Matt Moonstone Silver Metallic and Candy Blazing Red / Matt Moonstone Silver Metallic.

Futuristic Chopper concept to gratify bikers sensibilities by Honda Motorcycle

Honda always see modders and bikers adorning their motorbikes with whacky features, just to grab attention, on a somewhat regular basis nowadays. These fluent bikes, when they snarl on the roads, make heartbeats stop. Well, if you are already getting goose bumps imagining one, then check out the Honda Chopper designed by Pete Norris that seeks to combine form with functionality.

honda-chopper-concept-1

Pete’s bike has been fitted with long front suspensions, which makes it look quite different. A feet forward seating arrangement will endow the rider with total comfort while riding it. Its handle bars face downwards to ensure easy maneuverability. The designer has always loved the supersonic bike from Return of the Jedi and agrees that he has derived some inspiration from it.

The motorbike has been wedged with a powerful biofuel engine, which will make it roar like a monster. Apart from this, the wheel hubs come embedded with electric motors. Normally, futuristic vehicles, which have been caked with sci-fi features, don’t rank high on the functionality graph.

Honda Chopper, with a crazy outline, is a practical vehicle and will zoom on the road with the latest technology. Its attention grabbing facade and speedy status are bound to make hearts skip a beat.
